hanging your artwork gallery style

I took a bold step and painted my family room Benjamin Moore soft pumpkin to match a pair of cool velvet chairs my aunt Aggie gave me.
I wasn't sure what to do over the fireplace. I decided to hang only handmade artwork gallery style! There are pieces from each of the kids and me and some purchased original pieces.
I've always loved how that looked in magazine shots of a Manhattan apartment.

There is room to add pieces, which is cool because there will be more artwork made! My fourth child, Griffin, was elected class artist by his peers this year at the end of 5th grade. He was thrilled. All my kids love art, I think the secret was we always had paper and markers/crayons out.

My friend Sue Bleiweiss' new book is coming out today! I'm so happy for her, it's going to be a great resource for artist of all types. I was the photographer's assistant and I have a small water color in the book. I'm psyched to get my copy!

Check out Sue's blog for lots of very, very cool giveaways to help celebrate it's release here.

Bountiful Batiks Table Runner

I was commissioned to make a table runner for a friend for her dining room. She gave me one of her place settings as inspiration. I chose to replicate it in batiks and hand dyed fabrics. It was a challenge to find the right fabrics but I did it! I used Mistyfuse for the applique. It's the best product when you are layering pieces.

I did a small zig zag stitch with my free motion foot and then free motion machined quilted in the details from the plate.

I used an ink pen to help with some of the design on the rose.

I used my Leaves Galore Applique template to make the wedges for the design on the sides. I cut the circles by hand....

Bountiful Batiks  54" x 20"

She was absolutely thrilled with it!!!! She almost cried :) It looked perfect in their dining room.
